A couple weeks ago, I didn't know for sure what I would be doing in 2007. I knew I wanted to stay in Europe. I knew I didn't want a 9-5 job at a big corporation. But I didn't know what I wanted to do. My boss didn't need me for the next couple months... so I was on my own.
When I was in Madrid, I had a chance to think about some other projects I could do for my current boss. I like working for him, I like the network I'm connected to through him, and I definitely like the London apartment job perk! So logically, I should continue working for him! It was just up to me to figure out how.
In thinking about my opportunities, I spent a lot of time considering the skills I had developed in the other projects I've been doing lately. At the University of Malta, I did a lot of research on how the workplace is changing and how businesses are competing in the modern tech-heavy workplace. For myself, I've set-up several blogs and explored how to use that technology to reach a larger audience. For my mom's friends and colleagues, I've helped them to take advantage of the new blog technology and spent a lot of time breaking it down for them so they could understand how such new technology could work for them.
From this, I got the idea that I would research an Internet strategy for my boss to promote his brand on the web. As a innovation guru, his work is absolutely cutting-edge. However, since neither he nor his team has grown up with the Internet, his online presence isn't quite up-to-date. That's completely understandable... everyone in his organization is extremely busy working on multiple projects all over the world!
So, I created a project proposal where I would research what his peers are doing in terms of Internet promotion and eventually design a strategy for him. Presented the proposal to him, he said "sure" as long as I do a couple other things besides... and I'm back in business for 3 more months!!!
Thus, Katie's Overseas Adventures will continue!
